GUIDE — EVERY PATH TO ON-AIR

Four ways to install.

Every path ends on the same firmware. Pick by what you have in hand.

01

Browser install

Chrome or Edge on desktop. Connect the device by USB, press Connect & Install on the Flash page, pick its port, and wait for the ASCII bar to reach 100%. Press RESET once when told.

02

SD card update

Devices already running M5SHARK: download update.bin from the library, copy it to the SD card root, then open Device → Update Firmware on the device. Both OTA slots fit every release.

03

Command line

Any OS. Grab the four binaries, open the CLI page, set your COM port and run the generated esptool command. Works even when the browser path cannot.

04

Verify the flash

After reset the boot splash shows the release tag. Settings → Device Info reports the version and both OTA slots; a bad flash falls back to the previous slot automatically.

Questions

+Which release does the browser installer write?

Always the current one — R150 CHAMELEON ULTRA APP. The library page keeps older releases for reference and CLI installs.

+Can I flash from a phone or tablet?

No — Web Serial needs Chrome or Edge on desktop. Phones can still control a running device over Web Control (join M5-SHARK-CTRL and open the panel).

+The installer cannot sync with the chip.

Hold BOOT, tap RESET, release after two seconds — that forces the ROM bootloader onto the serial port. Then press Connect & Install again.

+Does the firmware phone home?

Never. The only network the device runs is its own Web Control access point. The installer page counts flashes on a public counter; the device itself sends nothing.
